In-service for implementing a school-wide writing community
An in-service was created by myself and some collegues which would not only help students become more avid writers, but it also provides teachers with ways to encourage writing in every subject, not just English.

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead
This handout supplies teachers with ideas on how to adapt techniques from Wilhelm and Smith's "Reading Don't Fix No Chevys: Literacy in the Lives of Young Men" to various types of text. Some of the examples given are specific to Tom Stoppard's "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead," but they can easily be altered to fit any piece of literature.

Character Map
A mini-lesson on the different ways an author reveals character traits. Students will read a short story and then fill out a character map with character traits they observed. They will then provide textual support to show whether each trait is direct, indirect, or both.
